Registration at EHB
The first step after you arrival is contacting your university (EhB) for your registration and a bit of paper work. Contact the International Office as soon as possible after your arrival. Let them know about your presence in the country, your temporary residence accommodation and contact information in Belgium. They will inform you which steps still have to be completed to finalize your enrolment in the Erasmushogeschool.
Registration at your Embassy
During your stay here, it is advisable to inform the embassy or consulate of your country in Belgium that you are a resident in Belgium.
Embassy staff will act as a contact point if something happens to you here, or in your home country.
It is also possible for you to vote at your embassy in national elections, if necessary.
You can find the addresses of all foreign embassies in Belgium on the following website: http://www.diplomatie.be/en/addresses/belgium/default.asp
Registration at the town hall
If you plan on living in Belgium for some time, you must register at the local town hall ("maison communal" or "gemeentehuis") and get your residence permit.
The city of Brussels has 19 municipalities, and every municipality has its town hall. Check for the right address and pick a language. On the right, you will find a "list of municipalities". Where you should go depends on the address of your place of stay.
Take into consideration that not all the town halls ask for the same documents. Depending on the municipality you will have to make the registration in one way or another. Ask at the office and take the necessary documents with you.
Go as soon as possible and sign and collect the form called “declaration of arrival" (aankomstverklaring / declaration d'arrivée). This procedure is similar to signing a hotel register.
You need your identity card or international passport and (if required) your VISA.
Within 4 months after arrival, you must submit some documents at the local Town Hall. When you register yourself at IRO (International Relations Office), they will tell you which documents you should bring.
After registration at the local Town Hall you will receive your resident permit - it is your Belgian identity card.
At the end of your stay in Belgium you must hand back this Belgian identity card to the Town Hall.
